Industrial Chemical Labelling
Industrial chemical labelling covers many different applications, including bulk chemicals, oils and paints, and building and agricultural products. Labels for outdoor use in particular require durability, e.g. water and chemical resistance.
Contributing to product safety
In industrial chemical labelling the label also plays an important role in product safety since it identifies products and any possible hazardous components. Recent EU legislation requires manufacturers to classify and label substances and preparations. BS 5609 sets legal standards for label durability in marine use.
Different materials for indoor and outdoor use
Standard paper or film label materials are currently in use in most labelling applications, particularly for products stocked or used indoors.
In outdoor applications the trend mainly driven by end-user requirements, is leaning towards standard films or films with special coatings like UPM Raflatac’s Polyprint 100 and Syntransfer. Matt grades dominate, though the use of gloss film materials is rising.
Printing methods for all needs
The main printing methods used in industrial chemical labelling are flexo and UV letterpress. For variable information, thermal transfer and laser systems are utilised most. Laser printing on film labels requires special materials such as UPM Raflatac’s Polylaser or PE laser.
Safety requirements and certificates
Industrial chemical labelling requires specialist face materials and adhesives that meet the requirements of the industry. UPM Raflatac's products comply with legislation concerning e.g. marine use and heavy metals.
